Professional career

After studying production engineering at the University of Siegen, he gained postqualification experience with Kostal, the Lüdenscheid- based automotive supplier, introducing robots to their switch component assembly lines.

From 1986 to 1998 he performed various functions within the firm:
a) Head of global production planning - which included coordinating overseas plants in Ireland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and England, developing new production processes and technologies, and implementing the Toyota production system;
b) Chief Technical Officer in Sao Paulo, Brazil (transfer of production technologies, restructuring of metal and plastic parts manufacturing and also tool manufacturing);
c) Assistant to the Management Board.


Between 1998 and 2007 he held various positions at the automotive supply firm MAHLE:
a) Managing Director of MAHLE Portugal (restructuring);
b) Managing Director of MAHLE France (production technology transfer);
c) Director of central and eastern European projects;
d) Managing Director of MAHLE Romania (construction of a greenfield site).

Since 2008 he has been a self-employed interim manager in the automotive, engineering and manufacturing sectors.
